THE BALKANS - 50 PHOTOS TO INSPIRE A VISIT

I quite often get asked after having nearly travelled to every country in Europe, what my favourite part is of this amazing continent I get to call home. What surprises a lot of people every time I’m asked is my response, without hesitation, the Balkans.

Stunning scenery, incredible (but troubled in large part) history, amazing food and for Brits and other Western visitors, very affordable prices are to name a few of the reasons why I put this region at the top of my must visit European destination list.

An interesting quality I find about this part of Europe, which although can be frustrating to many travellers but I find particularly interesting and adds an element of nostalgia is how you travel around this region. Most of these countries still retain a hard border and use their own currencies, which to me these small things bring back a touch of what travel used to be like across the whole of Europe many years ago before the adoption of the Euro and border-free travel area.

This photo collection of mine features in no particular order, photos taken largely in Bosnia & Herzegovina, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Kosovo, however you will also find a couple of photos from Albania, Slovenia Croatia and Serbia. I hope this gallery inspires you to visit this less visited part of the continent!
